Development of novel wearable sensors for mobile health

2012
In response to the world's rapidly ageing population, an intense area of research interest is mobile health (m-health) focused on ubiquitous patient-monitoring. While various biosignals are monitored using conventional methods, it is worthwhile to investigate alternative sensing approaches in order to improve accessibility of patients' health status. This paper presents the prototype of a “smart shirt” which makes use of the in-house sensors which are being developed in our laboratory. It consists of an intelligent finger-ring photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor, optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor, and head-mounted camera for pupillary dynamic monitoring.
