The Haemodynamics of the Side-to-end A-V Fistula in the Wrist

1981
The consequences of the opening of an AV fistula are changes in the haemodynamies of the systemic and the limb circulation, pressure alterations resulting in regional flow pattern changes near the fistula, and changes in the wall of the vessels between which the fistula was created. Several studies deal with these alterations (1–4, 6, 7, 9–14, 16), the fistula being in the majority of the side-to-side and in a few of the end-to-side types. None of these investigated the haemo-dynamics of the side-to-end type of AV fistulae. The present study deals with the changes in the regional flow pattern of the side-to-end radiocephalic fistula near the wrist and with the clinical significance of these alterations.
