The invention relates to a method and a load management system for a rechargeable battery by a voltage control or by an intensity control including a plurality (n) of serially connected branches, each branch having a plurality (p) of electrochemical cells connected in parallel. Each electrochemical cell has a load profile (PC) having at least one shelf area directly followed by a sloping area in which the change in the voltage according to the load condition in the plate area is on average at least 10 times less faster than the change in tension in the sloping area.
