We present a synthesis of the long-term research program (started in 2004) Tropical Forest Management (MABOTRO), conducted by academics of eleven institutions and more than 50 bachelor and graduate students. We built a methodological framework for the generation of knowledge useful for the preservation of tropical forests, the restoration of degraded areas and the use of secondary forests, all within the context of the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes.
