Leaching Aluminum from Cathode Electrode of Spent Lithium Ion Batteries by Two-Stage Countercurrent Process

2012
Aluminum was leached from cathode electrode of spent lithium ion battery by two-stage countercurrent process. The effects of feeding mode, alkali concentration, addition rate of alkali in two stages and temperature on the leaching rate of aluminum were investigated.Raw malerial was fed slowly after adding alkali at the first stage. The addition of alkali at first stage and second stage accounted for 40% and 60%,respectively,of the total amount of alkali added, with the alkali concentration at the second stage reaching 15%.The leaching rate of aluminum reached 98% after 2 h reaction time for each stage at an atmospheric temperature of 95 ℃.
