A ranging method of a ground fault wave distribution network zero difference line-based mode, comprising the steps of: (A) phase is injected at the head of the high-voltage pulse distribution network fault, and three-phase traveling wave detection voltage return, tris traveling wave voltage phase obtained by returning a zero-phase-mode transformation mode voltage of the first traveling wave data; (B) in the first end of the injection phase of a distribution network and the non-defective in step (a) of the same high-voltage pulse, and detects the three-phase wave voltage return line, the voltage of three-phase traveling wave returned obtain a second zero-mode voltage with the traveling wave mode conversion data; two zero-voltage mode line (C) in step (a) and step (B) obtained wave data subtracted to obtain difference data; obtain difference data (D) of the step (C) for the time difference, we get the first non-zero point mutation, and thus obtain a traveling wave propagation time; (E) of step ( D) obtained by substituting the propagation time of the ranging equation, the fault distance is obtained.
