This study aimed to identify the laboratory tests recognized by nursing students requested in the routine of the nurse in Primary Care and to analyze the importance of the requesting of these tests to the practice of this profession. This is a qualitative study, which had as scenario a Higher Education Institution in the city of Teresina -PI. The subjects consisted of 13 nursing students. The data was collected through interviews with an open script, recorded and transcribed in full. This research had as reference the content analysis and for the treatment of the material it was used the thematic analysis technique. It was then possible to form three categories: tests ordered by nurses in their practice in Primary Care, the importance of test ordering by nurses from the Basic Attention as a strategy for health promotion and disease prevention in Primary Care and tests ordering by the nurse as support for diagnosis. It is hoped that this study will contribute to an improvement of the pedagogical project of the nursing course, as well as to the process of training of the nurse in relation to reflections on the importance of requesting and interpretation of laboratory tests.
