New position-sensitive detector for the IN10 backscattering spectrometer

2000
Abstract A new two-dimensional curved multidetector (PSD) has been installed on the backscattering spectrometer IN10 at the ILL. In this new configuration, the angular resolution is improved significantly and depending on the size of the sample, may vary from 2° to 6° (18° in the old setup). This enables Bragg peaks to be located very precisely. Further more, because exact backscattering geometry can be retained for all scattering angles, the energy resolution is constant over the whole detector and is improved to 0.7 μeV (0.8 in the old setup).
