An in vivo Comparison of Different Impression Materials for Reproduction of Intra-Radicular Surface Anatomy Using Injection Technique

2013
Background: Different types of impression materials and different procedures or methods have been introduced in Dentistry for preparing dowel crown. This study was to evaluate, which of these three materials were efficient enough to produce nearest to actual intra-radicular surface reproduction by assessing the void formation and dimensional accuracy. Materials and Methods: Total sample size was 60 for each group 20. Three types of impression materials used to take the dowel impression. The samples were collected from each tooth with 3 different impressions taken by 3 different materials. Injection technique with silicone, inlay casting wax and self cured acrylic resin materials were used to get an accurate impression. Results: Out of 20 in each study group, 1(5%) voids were found in silicone group, 2(10%) inlay casting wax group, 4(20%) in acrylic resin group. In silicone group the voids were 1mm size. Conclusion: By assessing all the parameters the silicone impression material was proved to be the efficient one of the three.
