Chemical constituents from capitula of Eriocaulon australe

2014
Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the capitula of Eriocaulon australe. Methods: The compounds were isolated and purified by column chromatography and their structures were determined through spectroscopic techniques( NMR) and physicochemical properties. Results: Six compounds were identified from capitula of Eriocaulon australe as( R)-semixanthomegnin( 1),toralactone-9-O-β-D-glucopyranoside( 2),(-)-semivioxanthin-9-O-β-D-glucopyranoside( 3),4-ketopinoresinol( 4),β-daucosterol( 5) and3,3'-dihydroxy-4,4'-dimethoxybiphenyl( 6). Conclusion: Compounds 1 ~ 6 are isolated from this plant and compounds 3 ~ 6 are obtained from Eriocaulon genus for the first time. Compound 1 shows DNA scission activity.
