Radioprotective properties of mercaptoacetamidines and possible biochemical mechanisms of action thereof. [. gamma. rays; mice]

1979
A study was made of the radioprotective efficacy of some mercaptoacetamidines: 2-mercaptoacetamidine hydrochloride, bis-(2-acetamidino) disulfide dihydrochloride and N-(1-adamantylmethyl)-2-mercaptoacetamidine hydrochloride. It was demonstrated that all three compounds have a marked radioprotective action when administered intraperitoneally and by mouth. Data are submitted on the dynamics of distribution of /sup 35/S-mercaptoacetamidine in organs and tissues of mice 5, 15, 30, 60 and 120 min after intraperitoneal administration. Evidently, an increase in protein SH groups in the spleen plays a substantial role in the mechanism of radioprotective action of mercaptoacetamidine.
