Oxygen Transport Analysis in Cortical Bone Trough Microstructural Porous Canal Network

2009
Oxygen supply is one of primal concerns in bone modeling and remodeling. In the cortical bone, oxygen is transported through the vascular system in the Haversian and Volkman's canals and through the periosteocytic space of canaliculi mainly. In this study, the oxygen transport by convection and diffusion was modeled for both of the vascular channel network and the bone canaliculi network. The oxygen distribution and its nonuniformity were examined for the cortical shaft of rat tibia using the constructed model with CT- imaged bone structure. p ij rate pt ij p ij p p ij ij p ij
