Terápiarezisztens fehérjék, szabadgyökök és antioxidánsok szerepe kutya limfómájában = Role of therapy resistant proteins, free radicals and antioxidants in the prognosis of canine lymphomas

Veterinary sciences and diagnostics are in need of oxidative parameters regarding tumor patients. Dogs and cats with weird symptoms show up at veterinary clinics, and specialists do not even recognize the disease. Our research shows that the amount of reduced glutathione in blood can be a good candidate for being a marker of possibility of cancer or other malignant disease. 2. Multidrug resistance proteins (MDR) were another issue of our investigations. Chemoresistance is one of the major problems of chemotherapy. We have shown by Western blot and rt-PCR analyses that survival of dogs is related to their expression of tumor MDR proteins. Consecuently, it is not worth to treat a dog with conventional chemos if its tumor overexpresses specific MDR proteins. 3. Conventional therapies fail in many cases. Photodynamic therapy is a promising alternative to treat cats and dogs with some kinds of tumors. It uses a harmless photosensitizer and a source of visible light. We have recently introduced photodynamic therapy of tumors at the SzIE University of Veterinary Sciences. Success of the treatment is overwhelming. We got more positive feedback than expected. This is the first and only oncological PDT therapy trial in Central Europe.
