A novel reaction of Os6(CO)18 with Me3NO; isolation and NMR study of the new hexaosmium cluster anion [HOs6(CO)17]-

Abstract In the absence of a ligand and in non-coordinating solvents, Os 6 (CO) 18 racts with 2 equivalents of R 3 No (R = Me, Et) to give the new hexaosmium cluster [HOs 6 (CO) 17 ] − . Variable temperature 1 H and 13 C NMR and 2 D NMR. techniques have been used to investigate the structure of this anion and its dynamic behviour in solution. The mechanism of the novel reaction is discussed.
