Increase of the turbo-generator unit power and intensified use of its active materials caused significant growth of the structural tension and the sensitivity to overloads. In the calculation of the planned daily operating modes of power systems, the monitoring services mostly concentrate on ensuring proper work of equipment in normal modes. The need of rigid limitation of overload time in emergency situations is generally not taken into account. This could cause inevitable shutdown of the generator by its safety circuit, and result in a serious failure of the entire power system. The article considers the most common causes of the turbo-generator overloads above acceptable limits and recommends preventive measures.
