HEREDITARY GINGIVAL FIBROMATOSIS- A RARE AUTOSOMAL DOMINANT DISORDER

2017
Hereditary gingival fibromatosis is a rare autosomal dominant disorder occurring either as an isolated trait or as a manifestation of a systemic disorder or syndrome which is characterized by a generalized diffused involvement of the gingiva covering the entire surfaces of the crowns. The pathogenesis of the disease is still completely unclear, however mutations in the son of sevenless gene-1 (SOS-1) has been attributed for its occurrence in few forms of the disease. This paper discusses a case of a 13 year old female patient with generalized diffused gingival enlargement and a positive familial history. Though definitive treatment for the management of the condition is not available surgical gingivectomy with external bevel incision was performed and maintained for a period of 2yrs Keywords : fibromatosis
