WPT system for implantable devices using a phased array and tracking algorithm for freely moving rats

Medical device testing in animal models is essential in shaping the landscape of modern medicine, and a fundamental stepping stone towards the development of implantable devices for humans. This paper presents a wireless power transfer system that tracks the position of a device that moves randomly inside a defined area, such as an animal housing. For this, an RF phased antenna array WPT system was developed, along with a feedback system, and a tracking algorithm. With such system, it was possible to deliver more power to the target device along its movement path than if a single transmitter was used, or if no tracking was applied.
