Development of materials based on acid-base reaction cements

1986
Abstract Acid-based reaction cement are composite materials consisting of a metal salt matrix incorporating glass or metal oxide filler particles. The cements are used in dentistry and the construction inductry. In the past 15 years a new water-based cement, the glass-ionomer, has been developed for dentistry. Since it is adhesive to metals and has controlled release characteristics, the cement has been exploited in the development of coatings, surgical splint bandages and controlled release devices for trace elements, pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Both environmental and performance requirements have provided the impetus for the development of these products.
