Chapter 2 Sedimentary Models of Siliciclastic Deposits and Coral Reefs Interrelation

1988
Abstract In the geological record of two differently positioned basins near the Spanish Mediterranean coast (the Biocene Fortuna Basin and the Eocene Catalan Basin) there exists a great number of reefs physically related to siliciclastic deposits. These reefs developed in different environments (delta, fan-delta, beach and tidal environments) coexisting with an active terrigenous sedimentation. In six cases of those analyzed, the sedimentary bodies of siliclastics (bars, lobes, channels) controlled the geometry and positioning of the reefs. In one of them, the reef conditioned the types of facies and positioning of the terrigenous sediments.
