The exploration of Central Australia was performed by many explorers on camel back. The result was a series of mapped strips across the continent, but many blank areas remained. Donald Mackay used the aeroplane to map these previously unseen areas. He also used modern equipment, especially the wireless, to ensure accurate navigation and mapping.
