Method and system for target tracking by using multi-view videos

The invention provides a method and a system for target tracking by using multi-view videos. The method comprises the following steps of: acquiring distributed positions of all cameras, establishing a pathway table of the cameras by combining a map, and marking corresponding relationships, between an arbitrary camera and cameras where the arbitrary camera possibly moves to reach in a next step, on the pathway table; determining the camera where a target is located currently, storing the feature information of the target, and carrying out target tracking only in the current camera if the target is still in the current camera; and if the target disappears from the current camera, reading the pathway table, searching the cameras where the target possibly reaches in a next step according to the pathway table, and searching the target from video streams of the cameras where the target possibly reaches in a next step according to the stored feature information. The method and the system for target tracking by using the multi-view videos have the advantages that the deficiency of blind search in the conventional multi-view video specific target tracking technology is overcome, the matching accuracy of multi-view specific targets is improved, the omitted matching and mis-matching are lowered, and the speed is greatly increased.
