A clinical evaluation of the Lippes Cu. 120.

1973
The effectiveness of the Cu-120 intrauterine device was evaluated in relation to the Lippes C or D device and the Lippes Cu-30. On the Pearl Index the pregnancy rate was 1.4 with the C or D devices 1.2 with the Cu-30 and 0 with the Cu-120. After 1 year the percentage of women discontinuing the C or D device and the Cu-30 was similar (20.5% and 19.5% respectively) while the incidence for the Cu-120 was considerably lower (9.82%). Except for expulsions the Cu-120 had the l owest incidence of removal for reasons of metrorrhagia pain and infection. There was a high incidence of removals for metrorrhagia with the Cu-30 (10.7%). The Lippes Cu-120 is concluded to be a highly effective and well tolerated contraceptive device.
