The usefulness of qualitative knowledge development in hand therapy

2004
Abstract Qualitative research is a concept that is not as familiar to many of us as our tradition model, quantitative research. Much can be added to our understanding, especially of patient perceptions, through the qualitative approach. Toward that end, the JHT invited Josephine Chan and Jean Spencer to spearhead an effort to foster submission of qualitative manuscripts. Here, in our first issue of the year, we feature the first fruit of their labors, a paper authored by Chai Hong Lai. In subsequent issues, we will present a series of qualitative articles thanks to the leadership of Drs. Chan and Spencer. Please read the following guest editorial by Josephine and Jean.
