Pathanalysis to depressed moodand anxiety in postmenopause

1999
The climacteric is the period of time in the life of women that covers the years of progressive ovarian insufficiency. At this developmental stage, psychological disorders such as depression and anxiety are frequent. Hence our objective in this study was to attempt to establish a model of structural equations where biological variables. such as hormone levels, psychological variables, such as expectations and negative thinking, and social variables, such as the quality of the couple's relationship, may explain the causes of anxiety and post-menopausal depression. The sample was formed by 128 women with confirmed post-menopause, 65 with physiological menopause (50.78% and 63 with surgical menopause (49.22%). We posed a model (CDES=.761) where variables such as anticipation, the couple's relationship, contingency and FSH levels affect depression, whereas self-efficacy and also negative thinking act on anxiety. This model supports the idea of anxiety as an important variable in symptoms of depression.
