C 120: Intense Outburst (s) of Radio Radiation Detected with the Goldstone-Haystack Interferometer

1973
io frequency of 7850 MHz three-fold between 1972 June 6 and August 29. The disappearance of virtually all structure in the fringe-amplitude pattern for the August data is consistent with the occurence of an explosive outburst of radio radiation interferometer on 1972 November 7 disclose an additional increase in correlated flux with a reappearance of structure in the fringe-amplitude curve. These findings are consistent with a single, spherically symmetric source expanding with an apparent velocity several times the speed of light. The assumption that mulitple, independent outbursts occurred during this period avoids the implication of relativistic expansion.
