Optical, dielectric and polarizability parameters of l-glutamic acid hydrochloride crystal for efficient nonlinear optical application

2021
l-Glutamic acid hydrochloride (LGH) crystal has wide range of potential behaviour in nonlinear optics. This peculiar LGH was grown by adopting slow evaporation method. The grown crystal was subjected to characterizations like XRD, UV visible analysis, dielectric and nonlinear optical (NLO) study. The XRD analysis unambiguously identifies the grown LGH crystal as orthorhombic structure with P212121 space group. It has good transmission in visible region with wide band gap which was ascertained from UV–Vis spectrum. In addition, extinction coefficient and refractive index were also calculated. The NLO efficiency of LGH is three times superior than l-glutamic acid hydrobromide crystal. The dielectric constant of material has good response to frequency and temperature; also, the polarizable parameters like plasma energy, Penn gap, fermi energy and electronic polarizability were calculated. In order to find out the antibacterial activity of LGH, crystal disc diffusion method was utilized. Against Gram-negative bacteria namely Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) crystal exhibit good resisting activity.
