Natural history of Pilobolus kleinii: Experiments with sporangia in the cow digestive tract and the early stages of growth

Sporangiospores of Pilobolus kleinii on plastic strips did not germinate during 48 h in a cow's rumen or on plastic strips passed through the entire digestive tract. Sporangiospores germinated on glass slides inserted in fresh faeces after 12 h but only very few sporangiospores finally germinated to give the usual crop of sporangia after 5 days.
