Cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus Using Pleurotus eryngii Spent Substrate

2015
Spent substrate of Pleurotus eryngii cultivated on industrial scale was reutilized for cultivating Pleurotus ostreatus as replacement of cotton seed hulls. Spent substrate proportion was 40% and 60%, respectively. Vigourous growth was observed in two cases. The duration of sackful colonization increased with the increase of spent substrate proportion, but the time of primordium formation had no significance difference compared with basic substrate of cotton seed hulls. Fruiting body yields de-creased gradually with the increase of spent substrate proportion. The highest profit per growth bag was realized on substrate formula with 40% spent substrate.
