Integration of fossil and renewable energy technologies to mitigate carbon dioxide

1993
Abstract This paper analyzes several integrations of photovoltaics (PV) and integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) technologies to reduce carbon dioxide. In one of these integrations, liquid hydrocarbon transportation fuels are produced by reacting the carbon dioxide from the IGCC plant with hydrogen produced from PV electrolysis of water. This system appears to be cost competitive with a hydrogen economy alternative for future estimates of system performance and costs.
