BERLIN'S REVOLUTIONARY PUBLIC-PRIVATE TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT CENTRE

At the beginning of 2003, a fully operational, public--private transport management center will begin monitoring, processing, and disseminating information on Berlin's traffic and transport system to the general public and the private sector. It will provide basic mobility services for no charge and value-added services for a fee. Apart from some minor subsidy, VMZ's private operator will cover operating costs using a creative approach to developing commercial information services. This article gives an overview of this new and innovative transport management effort.
