Liposomes as Immunoadjuvants for Saccharide Antigens

1995
AbstractLiposomal membranes, consisting of phospholipids, cholesterol and inserted glycolipids or glycoproteins are used in immunology for totally different purposes: receptor studies, targetting, immunopotentiation and stabilization. This manuscript deals with general aspects of these type of liposomes, their applicability, immunological characterization and limitations in its present form as a model vaccine. changes the character of the immune response from TI-2 to TI-1. As a consequence higher amounts of antibodies are produced and a shift to other IgG isotypes will be observed. As a final result we hope to evoke a longlasting protection to several bacterial infections (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria meningitidis, etc.) using minimal amounts of oligosaccharide and peptide as set out in the previous paragrΔpHs.
