Comparison of a Loaded Microwave Monopole Antenna and Bipolar RF Electrode Configuration to Assess Variation in Ablation Zone Growth & Visibility under EUS

2019
This paper explores the differences between Radio Frequency (RF) and Microwave (uW) ablation, with particular focus on the growth of the ablation and visualization under Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), two prototype applicators are used to show the difference in energy delivery. Results found that the RF ablation stops growing at a point unlike the uW which only slows in growth. In regards to visibility under EUS, the heights of the measured ablations were close to the actual values but the widths in both uW and RF were smaller especially with the RF ablation.
