In-building communication using massively distributed wireless microdevice network

2004
A new concept is proposed for establishing a wireless communication link between two terminals and avoiding multipath interference. This low level protocol uses a network of periodically deployed microdevices acting as autonomous nodes, without any supervising entity. Nodes are neither primary sources of information nor routers. They act as repeaters with very limited processing power. No frames are used: the communication protocol works at the symbol level. In a first step, the minimum propagation time is measured by the terminals. Then the nodes situated along the corresponding shortest route are activated. Finally, information is exchanged using a full-duplex scheme.
