Electromagnetic performance of partitioned stator switched flux permanent magnet synchronous generator

2017
This paper presents a partitioned stator (PS) switched flux permanent magnet (PS-SFPM) synchronous generator (PS-SFPM-SG) and its electromagnetic characteristics under different load conditions. The adopted PS structure enables the PS-SFPM-SG to achieve higher power and torque density due to enlarged slot space for the armature windings by moving PMs to an inner stator. Hence, the space conflict between armature windings and PMs in conventional SFPM machines is avoided. The electromagnetic characteristics of the PS-SFPM-SG under different isolated external circuit loads, which include resistance, resistance-capacitor (RC), resistance-inductance (RL) and diode rectifier loads, are predicted by 2-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) analysis and validated experimentally, together with analytically predicted performance and the field-circuit-coupled FE analysis.
