Venous Capacitance Changes in Congestive Heart Failure and Exercise

A pressure—volume model of the peripheral circulation is presented with a discussion of the effects of congestive heart failure on the venous capacitance bed. The model is also used as the basis for a new interpretation of the hemodynamics of the “muscle pump”.
