Smart parking by the COIN
2013
This paper proposes COntribution-based Incentive Design (COIN) as a general guideline for developing applications in the context of mobile crowd-sensing. As a case study, we apply the key ideas of crowd-sensing to design a smart parking system. The system encourages contribution by differentiating service and assigning tasks proactively to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base. Unlike generic incentive mechanisms, our approach stresses the evaluation of contributions when designing incentives so that only useful data is rewarded in a specific application scenario. This solution improves the efficiency of the solution and leads to a sustainable crowd-sensing ecosystem.
