Chronic Volvulus of Stomach in New borns

1987
Volvulus of the stomach in the newborns is seldom reported in medical literature. Fourteen cases of chronic volvulus of stomach were admitted to this hospital from March, 198 to June, 1985, It reached a high percentage of 22 among all the vomiting cases admitted in the same period. A clinical analysis of the 14 cases reveals that the younger the age, the higher the incidence could be, the male being the sex predominance. The definition. classification and etiology of the chronic volvulus of stomach are discussed. Twelve of the cases were cured by a postural treatment while the other two by "knocking on the baby's back" under fluoroscopy. One to five years' follow-up investigations reveal that all 14 babies were well nourished and developed, with no recurrence of the symptoms. Reexamination of the stomach with barium meal in 5 cases revealed all are in the normal position.
