Cadmium contamination of drinking water and community-based sanitation facilities

2017
Purpose: This study aims to assess environmental health risks in drinking water facilities were built by the Water Supply and Sanitation Community Based (Pamsimas) year 2015. Method: This study is an observational study using Environmental Health Risk Assessment. The variables in this model is the concentration of pollutants, the reference dose, the rate of intake, frequency of exposure, duration time of exposure and body weight. Data collection method used the measurement of the concentration of pollutants and collect weight of people who consume the water. population of sample is 100 persons and total sources of drinking water facilities is 3 units with a sample point 9 pieces. Results: The results showed level value of cadmium concentration in drinking water facilities were under the limit of detection laboratory tool (0.0043 mg/L), so the value used in the calculation ARKL was half. Mean body weight Mangkirana community was 54kg, Tebing Tinggi community was 54 kg and Sakalimau community was 52 kg. RQ value at Mangkirana village was 0.160, RQ value at Tebing Tinggi village was 0.152 and Sakalimau village was 0.161. Conclusion: The results of the risk assessment indicates RQ <1 means that the public do not have risks and still safe for consume the drinking water that built from Pamsimas facilities at Mangkirana village, Tebing Tinggi Village and Sakalimau village, so risk management is not required but safeguarding water quality by facility management must done and supervision by department of health.
