A sealing device formed of a floating body (7) disposed between a stator (1) and a rotor (2, 6) movable axially along the stator and carrier seals (13a, 14a, 13b, 14b) between a high pressure zone (b) and a low pressure zone (a) separated by the rotor. another pair of gaskets (16a and 16b) allows, by abutting against the rotor (2 , 6) when the latter is moved axially, to exert a resultant pressure forces which moves the floating body (7) in the same direction as the rotor for causing an equilibrium position wherein the elastic joints (14a and 14b) operate satisfactorily without being subject to excessive wear and without breaking the seal.
