Blue-and-white Flycatcher Cyanoptila cyanomelana : First Live Record for Australia

An adult male Blue-and-white Flycatcher Cyanoptila cyanomelana was present at Broome Bird Observatory, Western Australia, from 15 to 19 November, 2002.The record, which has been accepted by the Birds Australia Rarities Committee (case number 370) is only the second for Australia and the first live occurrence. A description of the bird is given, compiled from observations in the field and from digital photographs. Identification to sub-species and separation from similar species are discussed.
