MDDepartment of Anesthesiology, Pitie´-Salpeˆtrie`re Hospital, Paris, FranceIn a prospective randomized study in patients under-going carotid endarterectomy, we compared the hemo-dynamic effects, the quality of induction, and the qual-ityofrecoveryfromahypnoticdrugfortheinductionofanesthesia with sevoflurane, a target-controlled infu-sion (TCI) of propofol, or propofol 1.5 g/kg followedby isoflurane. All patients were premedicated with mi-dazolam and received sufentanil 0.4 g/kg at induc-tion. The induction of anesthesia was associated with adecreaseinarterialbloodpressureinallgroups, butthiswas least pronounced in the Sevoflurane group. Therewere similar a number of episodes of hypotension, hy-pertension, and tachycardia among groups, but the in-cidence of bradycardia was less in the TCI group (
