Inhibición de las fasciculaciones producidas por la succinilcolina mediante sulfato de magnesio

1999
Objective: To determine if magnesium sulfate (Mg + SO 4 ) inhibits the fasciculations induced by succynilcholine. Material and methods: It was done a blind prospective, longitudinal and double study. Men and women were included from 18 to 50 years of age, scheduled for surgery under general anesthesia. Patients received some type of antiacid with magnesium and those with diagnosis of acute or chronic renal failure were excluded. We formed two groups in aleatory form. In the group 1, saline solution 0.9% was administered (500 mL), thirty minutes before beginning the induction of anesthesia. In group 2, it was added magnesium sulfate (2 g) to the i.v. the saline solution 0.9%. In both groups we administered succynilcholine (Anectine) in dose of 1 mg/kg in one minute as muscular relaxant for orotracheal intubation. Results: We studied a total of 122 patients which 61 (50%) belonged to group 1 and 61 (50%) to group 2. Sex and age variables, had no significant statistically differences in none groups. In group 1, fifty patients (81%) had fasciculations and 11 (19%) didn't present them, while in group 2, fourteen patients (22%) presented fasciculations and 47 (77%) didn't fasciculate, giving a statistical signification (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The Mg + SO4 inhibit the fasciculations produced by succynilcholine in a high percentage of the cases.
