"Port-centered advantage" in formation of industrial clustering

2004
The emergence of large amount of industrial clusters in coastal and harbor cities has become popular economic phenomena. This paper analyzes the formation of advantages of industrial clusters in harbor areas. From the viewpoint of supply, the determinants of the formation of industrial clusters are mainly due to the increase of the logistic efficiency, mobility and accumulation of economic factors, classifiable technology and differentiated elements. On the other hand, from the angle of demand, industrial clustering results from particular location advantage, demand differentiation and dynamics.
