The diversity and utilization of plants in the homegardens of Pariangan subdistrict, Tanah Datar district, West Sumatra

Homegarden is type of agroecosystem of high biodiversity with multiple functions and roles. This research aims to discover the diversity and utilization of plants in the home garden of Pariangan subdistrict, Tanah Datar district, West Sumatra. This research was conducted on October-December 2018. The plants were observed, counted, recorded for their local names in 90 home gardens. The diversity index and evenness index were calculated by the Shannon-Wiener index (H′) and Evenness index (E). The research found 290 species, 229 genera, and 84 families of plants in 90 home gardens. Euphorbiaceae, Poaceae, and Leguminosae are families with the highest number of species (20, 18, 17) respectively. The diversity index and evenness index are 4.63 and 0.82, respectively. The plants are used for medicines, ornamentals, fruits, spices, vegetables, traditions, source of income, additional food, cosmetics, animal feed and building materials.Homegarden is type of agroecosystem of high biodiversity with multiple functions and roles.
