among the three groups at baseline. During follow-up, depression and functional status scores significantly improved over time in all patients but changes in emotional health were minimal. Group comparisons showed that while all patients continued to have low psychological scores at the time of follow-up evaluation, transplant candidates were more depressed and psychologically distressed than their counterparts (see table). Conclusion: Our results support the need for on-going psychological assessment with an emphasis on timely recognition and treatment of psychological distress throughout the HF illness trajectory.
