Presentation of mathematical-economic scenarios can easily give the impression of order and predictability of aquaculture development. But scenarios rarely refl ect the dynamic complexities of the real world. Scenarios should be used as a pointer to the direction of development and to help correlate key indicators. When used carefully, scenarios are a powerful tool that most stakeholders can understand and relate to during the planning process.
