Assisted living as an innovation approach to rehabilitation of the disabled having mental and social disorders

The existence of people having health limitations in the social structure of the public and their inclusion into active life of the society is one of the priority lines of the state social policy of the RF. It determines the innovation trends of social protection for the population and improvement of social services for this category of citizens. One of such innovation trends in rehabilitation of the disabled is assisted living which is aimed at obtaining and (or) improving the skills of self-maintenance for further independent life, at integrating them into the society, as well as at creating conditions for the disabled with mental and social disorders to adapt successfully in the social environment. The paper is the analysis of Russian and foreign experience of introducing the social support programs for people with disabilities. The programs are aimed at ensuring maximum possible life activity of such people in conditions of family and out-of-home upbringing that promote their successful socialization, preparation for independent living and integration into the society.
