The Role of Technology in Translational Science

Despite the foundation of the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program and the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS), the process to bring novel tools to the clinical setting is hindered by administrative challenges. Technology offers solutions to these obstacles and has the potential to drive the field of translational science forward. In this commentary, we discuss diagnostic technology, clinical informatics, and bioinformatics and their roles in the development of this field.
