Significance of Nitrogen Oxide and Its Metabolites in the Development of Embryos

2008
A high content (about a millimole) of compounds, nitrogen oxide (NO) donors, is found in the amniotic fluid of chicken embryos and bovine placenta. Their high content is found also in the blood of newborn calves and chicks before hatching. The possible role of NO and its metabolites in embryogenesis is discussed.
