Production of β-carotene by aRhodotorula strain

The production of β-carotene by the biomass ofRhodotorula strain var.glutinis, during the stationary phase of growth and in non-proliferating conditions was assayed. When the cells were transferred to distilled water, the fraction of β-carotene produced increased from 130 to 630 μg per gram of dried cells.
